DAY 2 CHICHICASTENANGO AND LAKE OF ATITLAN.
Departure to Chichicastenango for the visit of the market of Santo Tomas and the church. Chichicastenango still boasts one of the largest markets in Guatemala, serving Indian villages in the neighboring highlands. It is one of Guatemala’s most famous tourist spots. On Thursdays and Sundays, Indians market their products in the large central plaza. They worship, in a combination of Indian and Christian elements, in the parish church of Santo Tomás and at El Calvario church, which stand at opposite ends of the plaza. DAY 3 SANTIAGO ATITLAN
After breakfast visit the town of Santiago Atitlan by boat. Santiago Atitlán is a hub for the Tz’utujil-speaking Maya. Walking from the dock up main street, you’ll find stores selling the paintings and handicrafts of these people. Older residents of Santiago sometimes don traditional clothing, including the white- and purple-striped shorts worn by men. Visit of the church and the market. Return to Panajachel by boat. After lunch (not included ) return on your minibus to Antigua Guatemala, overnight
DAY 4 HALF DAY TOUR IN ANTIGUA
Half a day visit in Antigua Guatemala, the visit is done on foot, includes central park, cathedral, La Merced Church and San Francisco. Founded in the early 16th century, it served as Guatemala’s capital for almost 300 years, until 1773, when it was abandoned by crown officials following a series of devastating volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and floods. Now, the city’s cobbled streets — arranged in an easy-to-navigate grid, with views of the imposing Volcán de Agua to the south and the twin peaks of Volcán de Fuego and Acatenango to the west — are lined with farm-to-table restaurants, contemporary art galleries, and design studios.
