Maya ruins tours: Tazumal, Joya de Ceren, San Andres & Coatepeque.
Overview
The Ancient Maya Civilization has to be one of the most fascinating societies of Central America, the region holds the southernmost settlements of the Mayan world. The tour begins with a visit to San Andres Ruins and museum The investigations and excavations in San Andrés have been primarily of the political-ceremonial center and have revealed that it was divided into the South Seat (from which they governed) and the North Seat. In the year 600, the South Seat was filled with adobe (leaving a tunnel leading to the original seat) to construct the Acropolis, which contains ceremonial and political structures.
Then We continue to Tazumal Archaeological investigations indicate that Tazumal was inhabited from the Classic period through to the Postclassic and that the site had links as far afield as central Mexico, the northern Yucatán Peninsula and lower Central America. Tazumal has also a drainage system created to keep the pyramid dry during the rainy season.
You will visit Joya de Ceren, the only Maya site called the Pompeii of America, it was a Maya Village covered by layers of ash from a nearby volcano and discovered by accident in 1977, and its UNESCO world heritage site
